Birthday Girls - Mickey's Playhouse and Toy Story's Jessie

These two cakes were created for two birthday girls, one is a fan of Mickey's playhouse and the other is a Toy Story fan.  Mickey's playhouse cake had a purchased topper added by the birthday girl's mom.  Toy Story's Jessie needed nothing else.  Her clothes say it all ... in cake and fondant.  Happy Birthday!!!

More Cakes for Men

Here are two more entries in the cakes for men category which represent two popular "man sports".  Those sports are camping and poker.  Of course!

Mike is camping here with his four boys.

Real cards from the dollar store top this cake.  Poker chips are fondant

For Baby Wes on the Day of Your Birth

Dear Baby Wes,

In celebration of this very special day, I would like to share a cake made for one of your baby showers.  Catherine, who is a very sweet friend of your mom, decided to host a party with a vintage toy theme and thought that a baby block cake would be perfect for that occasion.  We also added some extra bites of cake with petit fours that were decorated with one of the little themes from your nursery... sailboats.  Your mom took these lovely photos.

Welcome Baby Wes!!  We love you.

Aunt Bobbie

The cake was 3 layers stacked of strawberry, chocolate and vanilla.
Like an old fashioned slab of neapolitan ice cream!

Petit fours - pound cake with raspberry filling, rolled marzipan on top
with a poured fondant icing.
The sailboats are rolled fondant cut out with a little mini cookie cutter.

The party decorations were perfect!!!

Cakes for Special Interests

These cakes were designed to highlight a hobby or special interest.  It's always fun to choose a design that speaks very personally to the honored guest or guests!

For a special mom who loves to quilt.  The quilt "panels" were made using a
color flow technique with an icing similar to royal icing.

For a lady who loves giraffes!

For a music lover!

For a group of ladies who call themselves ladybugs.  Love it!!

Cookies for a Cause - The Grand Opening of a Garden

I was honored to attend the grand opening of our Life Enrichment Center's new Therapeutic Garden.  It will provide hours and hours of joy to the members of Fayette County's Life Enrichment Center as they explore the lovely accessible pathways through raised beds of flowers, vegetables, and water features.  The amount of volunteer work that went into this project is simply amazing.  Kudos to all who made this dream a reality.

Baby plants now, but in a year or two this garden will be overflowing!

Cookie treats for those attending the grand opening.

A Special Graduation

The graduate's mom wanted his high school colors represented in the bottom tier and his college colors in the top tier.

Boy's Birthday Cakes

Here are a few more cakes created for the little tough guys.  Construction and sports with Pokemon for variety!

Brantley's first smash cake!

Gumpaste lightning bolts were provided to stick out of the sides of the cake at presentation.
JT's favorite is Infernate, so I put an Infernate royal icing plaque on the side of the cake.

Pink & White in Candy Clay

Candy clay is a mixture of corn syrup and melted candy melts.  It can be used to make all kinds of figures and shapes, but I really like the way roses look when they are shaped from candy clay.  Unlike gumpaste, they are very tasty, too!

Cupcakes for a bridal shower topped with candy clay roses.

A Valentine heart cake decorated with cornelli lace (in buttercream icing) and a ribbon with a cluster of candy clay roses.  The ribbon is also made of candy clay, rolled and cut into shape.

Aloha! A Luau and Hula Girls

These two cakes were created for Hawaiian themed parties.  One was for a luau and the other celebrated a birthday for two little hula girls.  Accent palm trees and sun were made in chocolate molds and the flowers were gumpaste.

The "girls" were made of a fondant and gumpaste mixture.  The shells were also molded chocolate.

My first attempt at a gumpaste hibiscus!  The colors matched the flowers on the party invitations.

A Landmark Birthday for a Drummer

Daniel celebrated his 16th birthday with a replica of his drumline snare drum.

One of a Kind Cakes... Bryant-Denny Stadium and a Shrimp Boat Cake

This groom's cake honored the groom's alma mater, the University of Alabama.  The circular ramps are constructed from fondant wrapped cookie stacks and the "fans" are red sprinkles.  The field is a sheet of rolled green fondant with hand painted yard lines.  Challenging to make, but lots of fun, too!

A SHRIMP BOAT CAKE

This groom's cake was designed for a groom who spent some time working
on a shrimp boat.  The "rigging" was made from cake dowels colored with edible
ink with tulle netting.  Pink fondant shrimp are the catch of the day.  Avery is the
lucky bride!
